  • It seems like we have to replace about 25% of all the GFI's we install within the first year no matter what brand they are, you would think that for as many years as they have been on the market they would get the production right...

  • this bulletin is three months old, is this 'recall' still valid? Or has hubbel corrected the situation?

  • Finally! A recall of some of these blasted defective GFI's. I've seen more defective electronics in the last year than ever. Motion sensor lights don't work, more and more electronic stuff in every consumer product that fails, GFI's defective right out of the box. It is a wave of product quality garbage, and the suppliers just keep on shipping this junk out the door. Just like the lead-coated toy market, defective electronics are dragging our industry down. There has to be a backlash, and the inidividual, engineer or consumer isn't big enough to make a difference. Hooray for Hubble, with enough Guts to say enough is enough!

  • The document is from CANADA! Is it intended to include items built/sold/installed in the US?

  • I found the US page here: http://www.hubbell-wiring.com/gfcinotification/GFCI%20Product%20Notification.pdf Effective for devices manufactured July 2005-June 2007

  • I had some of these installed on a job and I am in the US. All they are saying is to perform a test on the devices by pressing the test button. If it trips and resets, you're all set. If it doesn't return it. All of mine were OK.

  • If these items were still made in the United States instead of China we probably wouldn't have these problems. Too bad the U.S. is pricing itself right out of all these jobs.

  • I am in the US and was notified by my supplier of the problem. I had already installed my devices and was told to simply press the test button and if it tripped and reset everything was OK. If not, return any that didn't work. All of mine were fine.

I buy almost all of my supplies through local suppliers and not big box stores. Hubbell does a good job of customer service and this is just an example of how people should step up and address a problem in my opinion.

  • Mike

Thanks for the heads up. In looking over the safety alert. There appears to be an omission.

In the alert is the following statement: "If the product fails the test, customers should stop using the non-functioning product immediately and and follow the instructions listed below."

There are no instructions listed below for dealing with a failure of the test. I think that Hubbell missed this a bit. Curtis
