PowerSURE Safety Light – Great Product Idea!

Hello Mike,

Image 1
As a reader of your newsletter for several years, I figured you may be able to provide some input on a new electrical wiring device that I have developed.  I am not looking for advertising or any promotion or endorsements, but an opinion of an expert in the field such as yourself of these devices and why or why they may not be important.

My PowerSURE Safety Light is a power failure lighting device that is self contained and integrated with a standard wall switch, dimmer or receptacle. It fits in standard wall boxes, and is covered by a standard wall plate and can be installed in nearly every room of every home with no new wires and no impact on room décor. It provides the original switching or receptacle function of a standard electrical wiring device, but also contains a night light and power failure light that provides light for up to 4 nights or more. Since it is a standard size wiring device conforming to NEMA WD-6 dimensional standards, it simply replaces existing switches and receptacles.

I have been unable to move past prototype stage because of lack of funds and not being able to raise the interest of leading manufacturers. The opinion that I'm seeking is a professional view of why this device is not attracting their attention. So far, electricians, home builders, architects, homeowners and more have seen the prototype and wanted to know when and where they can buy them.  I don't have a good answer since I can't manufacture them myself.

Given that there are no standards for safety lighting for residential homes, and we can't avoid power outages, do you have any thoughts on how to catch the attention of the leading manufacturers? Do you have an opinion of why it is not a good solution for many homes throughout the country?  I've put up a website to describe the devices further at www.power-sure.com if you wanted more details.

I feel like a one-man band in a symphony orchestra theater.

I know you're a busy guy, but I'm stymied on what it takes to bring this product to market. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Sincerely,

Bob Barton

Mike Holt Comment: Bob, I get lots of request like yours and I have made it a policy of allowing the market to determine the usefulness of an invention. But, as I read your email about your product, I was ready to order a few for my home!

I am sending your email to my newsletter members in the hopes that this helps you get the product to the market.

This is a GREAT idea! I hope that my efforts will be of some help.

  • Looks like an excellent product that should have universal appeal, especially in residential applications.
