While I was on the local City Council, we also had a pinhole problem with copper pipes. Some said it could have been from a change in water make up from the local water treatment plant. If water chemistry is changed, not unsafe water - just changed, the new water can cause the film that builds up inside water pipes to be eaten away leaving a pipe to deteriorate. Of course newer pipes have not had as much time to build up a film as older pipes, so new pipes are more susceptible to failure. Since water systems only guarantee safe drinking water (set by Government standards) not the exact make up, it was the home owner’s responsibility to make the repairs.
My questions to your reader are this: has the water supply changed or has the local water company change the chemistry (make up) of the water. Rich
