Julia Calderone wrote an article for Consumer Reports on Secrets to the Perfect Cup of Coffee. She reports that in the U.S., coffee consumption is now at an all-time high - 62% of people drink it every day, and they're always on the quest for the perfect brew.
Although in the past we've been told that drinking coffee is not healthy, and in fact may be harmful, she reports that recent studies show that it might, in fact, be good for us. She cites reports that claim that coffee drinkers:
- were less likely to die prematurely
- have a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, healthier livers, faster metabolism
- can be more alert and have increased concentration, boosted learning, decision-making, and performance on cognitive tasks.
