Your comment about running a 220 connection into the ground and not blowing anything reminded me of the worm catcher I built when I was about 13.
Cut the end off of an extension cord. Tape each wire to a metal rod. Drive the rods into the ground about a foot and about 3 or 4 feet apart. Plug the extension cord in and watch the worms dance.
