In 1974, science fiction author, inventor, and futurist, famous for his short stories and novels (among them 2001 A Space Odyssey) told a little boy what his life will look like in 2001. In this video posted on YouTube, Arthur C. Clarke predicts in no uncertain terms that every household in 2001 will have a computer and be connected all over the world.

He goes so far as to discuss the implications this will have in social terms and whether we'll become computer dependent. Clarke predicts that the computer will enrich our society, allowing us to live anywhere on earth and still do our business. He says businessmen will be able to conduct their business from the comfort of their home in the country if they wish and no longer need to be tied to the big cities.

Comment from Tara Moffitt (MHE Employee): It's an eerie thing to watch the video and how spot-on Clarke was in his predictions. Thanks to the computer and forward-thinking companies like Mike Holt Enterprises I have been able to work from the comfort of my home for going on 8 years now. And this is what I see when I look out my "office window".

  • I agree with Tara. It is absolutely amazing how accurate Arthur Clarke's statement was/is!

Tara, I don't remember having seen such a picturesque scene anywhere close to your office window view, in Florida! You are truly blessed.
