  • The phrase "We must never forget" has been used by some people I know to justify bigotry against American Muslims. We must also never forget that the extremist wackos that perpetrated this crime do not represent Islam. Statements equating Islam with these nutcases are like saying Tim McVeigh represents all Christians or Hitler represented all Catholics. Clearly these extremist terrorists do not represent the views of their religions, and Islamic leaders int he US have gone to great pains to point this out, only to be confronted with bigotry once again. Islam is misrepresented as a violent religion because of the misdeeds of a few nutcases. One could just as well misrepresent Catholicism as violent because of the Inquisition, a regrettable history that stains the great good that religion has done in the world. I work with several Muslims - Proud US Citizens all - that feel the bite of bigotry every day, and are as appalled at the horrible actions of 18 crazy men as you and I. Please treat these loyal American Citizens with the respect they deserve, while we mourn those who died needlessly on Sept 11.
