2007 Ontario Electrical Safety Report

 

The purpose of this report is to provide stakeholders the state of electrical safety in Ontario. The report provides statistics of fatalities and injuries of electrical nature. In addition, the report also includes electrical fire incidents causing death, injuries and damage identified by the Ontario Office of Fire Marshal and local fire departments.Image

 

The Electrical Safety Authority uses this report to identify the areas where ESA should focus its prevention, inspection and enforcement activities, making its action transparent to the people of Ontario.

  • I correct myself. They did break the wiring caused fires down by conductor type and as I suspected aluminum conductor would account for the increase in wiring caused fires. I know there are safe and sure ways to terminate aluminum conductor and proper ways of stripping and handling it but aluminum is only used because of its cost effectiveness and special precautions needed for it are not often taken because they are not felt to be cost effective. Improperly terminated aluminum connections are a fire waiting to happen.
