  • I have been boning up on the NEC's requirements for solar installations. I can not for the life of me see any benifit to bonding the negative side of the DC output on a photovoltaic panel and on the inverter to the ground. Indeed it looks like this practice exposes the DC system to AC noise, grid generated transients, local transients, ground faults and damage by nearby lightning strikes. I don't see any functional benefit and certainlly no safety benifit. Can anyone clue me in here? Jack Miller
