Why Selective Coordination is Mandatory – Presentation

ImageThere are now requirements for mandatory selective coordination in 4 different Articles in the NEC. The first, in Article 620, was added in 1993 for elevator circuits.  The second and third, in Articles 700 and 701, for emergency systems and legally required standby systems, were added in the 2005 NEC.  The most recent, in Article 708, for Critical Operations Power Systems, was added in the 2008 NEC.  Click here to review a presentation on the reasons that selective coordination is required for life-safety-related systems in the NEC by Cooper Bussman.

  • The prsentation on Selective Coordination is very interesting. I am wondering if there is any information on the types of facilities that require such an installation, IE: Phone company Central Offices, Cellular providors, Hospitols, etc.
