Executive Director, Standards and Safety

Executive search firm JDG Associates has been engaged by the National Electrical Contractors Association to conduct the search for the position of Executive Director, Standards and Safety. Headquartered in Bethesda, MD. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and serves as the Secretary of NECA’s Codes and Standards Committee. Please visit NECA at www.necanet.org.

 You will:

Administer the business of the Codes and Standards Committee in its relationship with other organizations pertaining to the National Electrical Code, including arrangements for committee meetings and the preparation articles for NECA media and industry publications. 

Develop and maintain National Electrical Installation Standards, prepare articles for NECA media and industry publications, and maintain relations with other organizations pertaining to standards.

Monitor federal legislation and regulations concerning OSHA, safety, and insurance, providing comments when appropriate. In this, serve as liaison to OHSA-related industry groups and coalitions, taking a leadership role as appropriate.

Represent NECA on industry committees concerned with technical matters, monitor activities of relevant organizations, and recommend NECA involvement where appropriate. 

Respond to member and other enquiries concerning the National Electrical Code, the National Electrical Safety Code, the National Electrical Installation Standards, OSHA, and other technical matters, as well as provide technical assistance to other staff members as requested.

You need to have: – Bachelor degree, engineering/technical discipline preferred. Clear understanding of the need for and role of codes, as well as leadership experience in standards development and maintenance. Excellent oral/written communication skills, especially as regards communicating technical information and concepts to non-technical audiences. Excellent representational skills required, as is the instinct to respond to the needs of others on staff, as well as membership and representatives of other organizations. The ability and desire to become the industry’s leading authority on standards and safety is essential.
