ESA Safety Alert – Unapproved Extension Cords
ESA has issued a safety alert about the potential fire and shock hazard associated with non-certified 6-foot, 9-foot and 12-foot indoor extension cords.
The investigation identified that the rating on the packaging of the extension cords misrepresents the load-capacity of the cord. The wire used in these products is undersized and may overheat, presenting a potential fire hazard. The extension cords are also wired with incorrect (reverse) polarity, presenting a potential shock hazard. These products have not been tested by a recognized certification agency and do not bear a certification mark.
