Keeping up with the requirements of the Code should be the goal of everyone involved in electrical safety. The following is what I feel is an important rule in the 2023 NEC®, complete with graphics and a video. I encourage you to use it as a training resource for your organization, and share it with your colleagues.

Ground-fault protection at docking facilities can be confusing if you don’t understand the purpose of the safety devices involved. NEC Section 555.35 outlines the requirements for both Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) and Ground-Fault Protection of Equipment (GFPE); applying these requirements correctly is key to keeping both people and property safe.
GFCIs protect people from electric shock by detecting ground-fault current and shutting off power quickly and on the other hand, GFPE devices are intended to protect equipment from damaging ground-faults.
Want to see how it all fits together? Dive into the attached text and watch the video as Mike and the team walk you through NEC 555.35 and explain how to apply these essential safety requirements in real-world situations.
