I have been teaching for almost 50 years and I'm proud of the work I've done, and the impact I've had on the lives of my students. I know what it takes to succeed—to be the best you can be. You have the awesome responsibility of educating the next generation, and I want to share the experience and wisdom I've gained so that you too, can learn how to make a difference, and change lives. I trust that you'll find new and fresh ways to reach and engage your audience, and reexamine your commitment to education.

Concentrate on building relationships. It starts with you communicating to each student that they are important to you:
- Be willing to go the extra mile
- Be sensitive to their feelings
- Immerse yourself in their concerns
- Use real-life examples that they can relate to
- Be willing to expose your weaknesses and vulnerabilities
Be sincere:
- If you're bored they'll drift with you
- if you're having a good time, they will too
- If you like and respect them, they'll like and respect you
