Article 705 covers the requirements for the interconnection of additional electric power sources that operate in parallel with a primary source. The primary source is typically the electric utility, but it could also be an on-site source [705.1]. An additional electrical power production source, such as PV, can work independently or in parallel with the serving utility to supply the needed power to the user's load.
An electric power production source connected on the supply side of the electric utility service disconnecting means as permitted in 230.82(6) must comply with 705.11(A) through (E). This Code section is new in the 2020 NEC, so read the attached article, then join Mike and a panel of Code experts on this video as they discuss these rules.
