Electrical Busway Vulnerabilities – Video and Discussion

Image

John A. Weber, Electrical Engineer with Hartford Steam Boiler recently sent us this discussion and new video. A recent analysis indicates that there have been many failures of vertically-run busway installations, especially in multi-story buildings. It seems that most building owners regard busway as maintenance free, but as you can see in the video, without proper attention, major business disruptions are just around the corner.

If you are using busway anywhere in your building you need to watch this video. We are happy to pass this along in the hopes that the information presented will be able to prevent similar disasters as those shown in the video.

  • Instead of single busway if we use 2 busways of equal rated capacity(full load)but separated by sufficient distance, even if one fails can't the other supply power as in BS ring circuit.

  • Very cool , Thanks for posting this , I have many client breweries who take over industrial spaces and often dont give any thought to the power systems installed other than if it will meet the equipment load. This will give me anotherarea to monitor for reliability of service

  • All electrical gear experiences some measure of failure. Are the statistics proving that this is less reliable than a comparable conduit and wire installation with switchboards?
