License Renewal & CEU Requirements

License Renewal CEU Requirements Florida Electrical Continuing Education Required: Licenses require 11 or 7 hours depending on electrical license type. See complete breakdown of topics required for each license type below. CEUs are due every two years by August 31, even years.

Certified & Registered Electrical Contractors (EC/ER): 11 continuing education hours, including topics:
  • 1 hour Workers' Compensation
  • 1 hour Workplace Safety
  • 1 hour Florida Laws and Rules
  • 1 hour Business Practices
  • 7 hours Technical (to include 1 hour of Advanced Code Module and 2 hour of False alarm Prevention (only if required))
  • 1 hour Florida Advance Building Code Module (this topic is also considered technical credit)
  • 2 hours False Alarm Prevention, if you perform alarm work (this topic is also considered technical credit)

Certified & Registered Alarm Contractors (EF/EG/EY/EZ): 7 continuing education hours, including topics:
  • 1 hour Florida Building Code Advanced Module
  • 1 hour Workers' Compensation
  • 1 hour Workplace Safety
  • 1 hour Florida Laws and Rules
  • 1 hour Business Practices
  • 2 hours False Alarm Prevention

Certified & Registered Specialty Contractors (ES/ET): 7 continuing education hours, including topics:
  • 1 hour Florida Building Code Advanced Module

*Newly Licensed* Please check directly with state If your license was issued less than 12 months prior to August 31st of the renewal year, you do not owe any continuing education. If your license was issued more than 1 year, but less than 2 years, prior to August 31st of the renewal year, you owe the following continuing education for your specific license type:
  • Certified & Registered Electrical Contractors (EC/ER): 5 Continuing Education hours
    • 1 hour workers' comp, 1 hour workplace safety, 1 hour business practices, 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules, 1 hours of Technical (Advanced Code Module course will meet this requirement) (for all certified electrical contractors who perform alarm work the 1 hour Technical credit should be false alarm prevention)

Florida Electrical License Renewal: Licensees must complete Florida approved CEU course before August 31, even years. Renew your license at MyFloridaLicense.com before September 1, even years.

Our Courses are approved and accepted for CEUs for the following other Florida licenses:
Florida Inspector License:14 continuing educations hours, of which must include a minimum of the following topics: 2 hr Energy Conservation, 1 hr Area of Accessibility, 1 hr Ethics, 2 hr Florida Rules/Laws. Note Our courses are approved by the ECLB/CILB and will award your inspector license "General Credit" hours only

Miami-Dade Electrical License: Dade county licenses require 16 CEUs every 2 years. 1 hour must cover Chapter 10, Code of Miami Dade County and 1 hour of Florida Statute 713, Construction Lien Law. Verify that the course is approved with Miami-Dade county for CE credit before you register. Miami-Dade Board Website

NOTE: Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board licenses, including plan examiners, the approved courses below will post to your license as "General" credit. We do not cover AOA, Ethics, or Laws/Rules for these license types.
